Tap & Screw Brewery is the first microbrewery on Cincinnati’s West Side! The name is a tribute to three of Cincinnati’s great industries. First, it’s a play on Cincinnati Screw and Tap Company, which was the original name of Cincinnati Milacron, historically known as the preeminent machine tool manufacturer. Tap obviously refers to the huge brewing industry that flourished prior to Prohibition. Perhaps less known, Screw, short for corkscrew, is a nod to Ohio’s place as the nation’s largest wine producer before the California wine industry started.
Funding is in place, equipment has been ordered, and the architect is finalizing plans. It will be located at the current site of Tom & Jerry’s Sports Bar at 5060 Crookshank Road. Depending on construction, permits and equipment delivery we expect to serve our first beer in September. Our excellent beers will be complemented with delicious fresh food also made in house, along with a selection of local wines. Unlike most microbrewery tap rooms, we will also serve a full selection of liquor, mixed drinks, domestic beers, and craft beers from other local microbreweries.
The management team has strong west side ties: Adam Lorenz, an Elder High School alumni, is the brew master, having over eight years experience making great beers. He’ll be surrounded by a couple of West High guys: Chuck Fritsch is the general manager running both the front of house and back of house on the gastropub side. Tom Lorenz is the assistant brew master, and in charge of overall operations.
